DOUBLE-DARE – Baroque and Neo-Baroque Duets

Playing duets can be wonderful and there are lots of them for recorder players to enjoy, though for many of us this repertoire isn’t a major focus. Here’s an opportunity for change! In this series of classes we’ll divide our time between Baroque and Neo-Baroque duets to explore questions on musical structure and expression, technique, rhythm, listening skills, when to lead and when to follow, and other ideas to bring the music off the page and enhance your enjoyment of this repertoire.

The music: selections from Bach’s Two-Part Inventions and duets by Telemann, Michael Tippett, Harald Genzmerand Hans-Ulrich Staeps.

Music and accompaniment mp3s of both parts provided, so you’ll ‘appreciate the view’ from each side.

Designed for recorder players at an intermediate level or higher. Mostly for alto recorder, though a couple of the pieces ask for soprano on one part.

Flutists and other treble instrument players are welcome if they wish to explore the repertoire.
